University of Jyväskylä has the honour to invite you to participate in a unique academic festivity, the Solemn Conferment of Degrees Ceremony on May 22, 2004.

The Conferment of Degrees Ceremony takes place in Jyväskylä Paviljonki. During the Ceremony Masters, Doctors and Honorary Doctors from various disciplines are solemnly conferred. At the Ceremony new Masters are adorned with garlands and rings, and Doctors with hats and swords as symbols of their new status. During the Act of Conferment, Jyväskylä University Symphony Orchestra plays the Degree Ceremony cantata by composer Lasse Jalava.

The three day festivities on May 21.-23.2004 also include a garland binding dinner for Masters and a sword sharpening dinner for Doctors on Friday, May 21. On Saturday evening there is a degree ceremony dinner with speeches and music. After the dinner, the traditional Ball with old dances continues til sunrise. On the day after the conferment, an informal cruise on Lake Päijänne is arranged.
