The conference will take place on the main campus of the University of Jyväskylä, world famous for its unique architecture. The milieu consists of the late 19th century college buildings, Alvar Aalto's works, and more recent Finnish architecture comprising the modern university. TOWN

The town of Jyväskylä is located in Central Finland, 270 kilometres north of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Jyväskylä is a lively university and school town with some 110,000 inhabitants in the city and nearby area. The town lies in the midst of the Päijänne Lake District. Lunches and snacks are available on the campus area in student restaurants and coffee shops. The are restaurants in the city centre within walking distance.

HOW TO GET TO JYVÄSKYLÄ

Jyväskylä is located in Central Finland, 270 kilometres north of Helsinki. The destination of most international flights is Helsinki from which there are frequent flight connections to Jyväskylä (50 min.). You can also take a train from Helsinki to Jyväskylä (3 h 30 min). There is also a regular bus service from the airport to Helsinki railway station. Railway timetables can be found at http://www.vr.fi/heo/eng/index.html. A third option from Helsinki to Jyväskylä is a coach service from Helsinki airport to Jyväskylä. For bus timetables, please visit http://www.expressbus.com/aikataul_eng_fs.html.

There also are international flights (by Ryan Air) to Tampere, 150 km south-west from Jyväskylä. If you arrive at Tampere airport, take a bus to Tampere railway station (timetables at  http://www.airpro.fi/bustimetable ) and a train from Tampere to Jyväskylä (1 h.30 min).

Jyväskylä Airport is located in Tikkakoski, 15 kilometres from Jyväskylä. There is a bus service to the city centre at 5,50 €. If you take a taxi, the cost is approximately 25 €.

Other options: There are frequent ferry lines to Finland from Sweden (Stockholm), Estonia (Tallinn) and Germany (Travemünde, Rostock) to the coastal cities Turku and Helsinki with a connection (coach/train) to Jyväskylä. Daily train connections are available from Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vyborg). There is a direct coach service from Russia (St. Petersburg, Vyborg) to Jyväskylä.

WEATHER
