Is it acceptable to pay a journalist for attending a press-conference? Should we produce the media release in 4 or in 7 languages? Why bother with the traditional media if we can go straight to the social media influencers?

The questions corporations need to answer when dealing with media are different in many Asian markets than in the so-called West: the role of the media, its history and regulations are often unique to Asian practices and therefore journalists and newsmakers work by a different set of rules as well. Their counterparts - the corporate communicators -  also have very specific capabilities to successfully manage media relations in Asian markets.

Using recent empirical data on capabilities and practice examples from two of Asia's epicentres (Singapore and HongKong), he will shine some light on the complex relationship between communicators and news makers in the world's fastest growing economic region.

Dr. Gregor Halff is Professor of Corporate Communication Practice and Deputy Dean at SMU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business (Singapore) as well as Visiting Faculty at the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT, Berlin). Gregor was recently appointed the new dean of education at Copenhagen Business School, where he will begin working in April.  He is the immediate past Chair of the worldwide professional body of the communication industry, the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management. Before joining academia, Gregor was managing partner at Publicis, the world’s third largest communication agency where he co-founded Publicis Public Relations, today part of MSLGroup. His refereed work about his research interests, Globalization and Corporate Communication, have been published in several respected publications around the world.
