Jyväskylä Imaging facility

Jyväskylä Imaging facility is situated in the Department of Biological and Environmental Science and in the Nanoscience center. It provides infrastructure for high-resolution imaging and image analysis for students and researchers in biology, chemistry, physics and nanoscience. In addition, the core provides training for local researchers and organizes courses and workshops for national and international students.

Nikon A1R laser scanning confocal microscope

Nikon A1R

High resolution and sensitive confocal system for live and fixed cell imaging. Suitable for photoactivation, photobleaching and FRET studies as well as multipoint and large area imaging.
Ti-E inverted microscope equipped with

  • 405 nm diode laser, multiline Argon-laser (458 nm, 488 nm and 514 nm lines), 561 nm Sapphire laser and 642 nm diode laser.
  • Two normal and two GaAsP PMT detectors for fluorescence and one PMT detector for transmitted light. Fluorescence detectors with emission filters (BP 450/50, 482/35, 515/30, 540/30, 595/50, (700/75) and LP 660).
  • CFI Plan Apochromat Lambda 4X (N.A. 0.20, W.D. 2.0 mm), CFI Plan Apochromat Lambda 20X (N.A 0.75, WD 1 mm), CFI Plan Apochromat Lambda 40X (N.A 0.95, WD 0.25-0.16), CFI Plan Apo VC 60XH (N.A 1.4, WD 0.13, oil immersion) and CFI Plan Apo VC 60x (N.A 1.2, WD 0.31-0.28, water immersion) objectives.
  • Nomarski DIC imaging possibility with 40x and 60x objectives.
  • Galvanoscanner for high-resolution imaging and resonant scanner for high-speed imaging. Scanners can be used simultaneously (photoactivation, photobleaching and photoconversion with 405 nm laser and galvanoscanner, simultaneous imaging with resonant scanner).
  • Motorized stage with the Piezo insert that allows fast and accurate multipoint imaging.
  • Perfect Focus System to correct focus drift in time-lapse experiments.
  • Humified stage-top CO2-incubator and large heated incubator (Okolab) for live cell work.
  • NIS Elements confocal imaging software with Calcium&FRET plug-in and JOBS module.

Olympus FV1000 laser scanning confocal microscope

High resolution confocal system for live and fixed cell imaging and photoactivation and photobleaching studies.

  • diode laser (405 nm), multiline Argon-laser (458 nm, 488 nm and 514 nm lines) and two HeNe-lasers (543 nm and 633 nm).
  • Four PMT detectors (three for fluorescence, one for brightfield), two fluorescence detectors with slit based emission filters and one with long-pass filters.
  • Spectral imaging possibility.
  • DIC imaging possibility.
  • UPLSAPO 60x oil (NA=1.35) and water (NA=1.2) immersion, UPLFLN 40x (NA=1.3) oil immersion, UPLSAPO 20x (NA=0.7) and UPlanFLN 10x (NA=0.3) objectives.
  • Extra scanner and control unit (SIM scanner) which can be used simultaneously with the main scanner (photoactivation and –bleaching using 405 nm laser).
  • Heatable stage for live cell work.
