Leppänen Paavo, Professori / Professor, Vice Dean of Faculty of Education and Psychology

Professor of psychology. He conducts and directs research in the field of developmental cognitive neuroscience. His research themes include dyslexia, language difficulties, and problems in foreign/ second language learning, their risk factors and training methods, and neurocognitive processes of text and online/ digital reading. He has long experience with brain research and behavioural research methods with infant, child and adult populations.

Brain research (event-related potentials, ERPs, and magnetoencephalography, MEG), behavioral experimental research, interventions and longitudinal studies

Research goals: 


To understand the processes related to learning difficulties, especially dyslexia, and why fluent reading is difficult for some children and how learning difficulties affect reading in current digital environments. In particular, to understand neurobiological risk factors or endophenotypes for developmental dyslexia and other learning difficulties, and how deficits in processes like auditory and speech perception, visual and audiovisual processing, and attention contribute to learning difficulties. My aim is also to understand well targeted remediation/ training approaches.
