A certificate in the proficiency of English or Finnish

If you are going to verify your language skills with a language test, make sure that you book your test time well in advance. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make his/her own language test arrangements. In general, language tests are valid for two years and the test results must be valid throughout the application period. This means it must not expire prior to the application deadline.

International language proficiency certificate

IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System)

Please attach a scanned copy of your IELTS Test Report Form to your online application. The quality of the scan needs to be high and each character on the report needs to be readable. We will always verify the test results from an online verification service.

We only accept IELTS Academic test scores. Tests taken at the general level will not be accepted as proof of the applicant’s language skills.

Also note that after you have taken the test it usually takes about 13 days for the test results to be published. It is advisable to book your test date well before the application period has begun.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

When registering to take the TOEFL test, please fill in University of Jyväskylä’s Institution Code 9818 in the Score Report Recipient field. If you have not used our institution code before taking the test, please do this as soon as possible by contacting the TOEFL test centre.

Please attach a scanned copy of your TOEFL score slip to your online application. The quality of the scan needs to be high and each character on the report needs to be readable. We use an online verification service for TOEFL results, and therefore your result cannot be accepted if you have not asked the TOEFL test centre to make your result verifiable to us using our Institution Code 9818.

Please note that the revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test that was launched in October 2017 is not accepted.

CAE (a Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate in Advanced English) | CPE (a Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate of Proficiency in English)

Please attach a scanned copy of your test certificate to your online application. In addition, enter your Candidate’s ID (3 letters and 6 numbers) and secret code (4 numbers) in your application for admission at Studyinfo.fi. These codes can be found on your Confirmation of Entry and Timetable document. If you do not have these codes, please contact Cambridge ESOL. Your results will be verified from the test organiser. Therefore, the test certificate without the codes is not sufficient for proving your language proficiency. Tests taken before 2005 are not accepted.

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English)

Once you receive your test score send it to the University of Jyväskylä from your PTE account. Choose Finland as the ‘Country’, University of Jyväskylä as the ‘Institution’ and click ‘Search’. Then select the University of Jyväskylä and confirm your order. After this, we should have access to your test results within 48 hours. Be advised that online language test results will only be accepted from the test organiser.
