How to submit the documents

Please note that some documents may need to be submitted twice: with the electronic application and by mail!

How to submit your documents together with your electronic application

Submit your electronic application at Studyinfo.fi by the end of the application period. Attach your research plan and doctoral study plan to your application. If required in the application guidelines, attach other necessary documents as well:

  • officially certified (attested) or legalised copy of your master’s degree certificate
  • officially certified (attested) or legalised transcript of records
  • official translations of your degree certificate and transcript of records
  • a language proficiency certificate
  • faculty-specific documents (e.g. CV)

Attach the documents in your electronic application in PDF format. Documents that cannot be attached in the electronic application can be sent by mail. After the application has been submitted, it is possible to complete the application and the attachments at Studyinfo.fi until the application deadline.

All educational documents (degree certificate and transcript of records) must be either officially certified by the awarding institution, or legalised. Officially certified copies issued by a Finnish Notary Public will also be accepted. Please note, however, that there are country-specific document requirements in place for some degree-awarding countries. Documents from these countries must be legalised or submitted in a certain way. These country-specific requirements must be followed primarily, before any other requirements for certifying or submitting documents. In addition, carefully read the instructions on official translations and language proficiency certificates.

How to send your documents by mail

Send all officially certified or legalised documents and all official translations attached to your electronic application to the University of Jyväskylä also by mail by the end of the application period. Enclose a brief covering note that includes your full name and the name of the faculty doctoral school for which you apply.

If the country-specific document requirements require sending the documents to the University of Jyväskylä in an envelope sealed with the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap, the documents can be delivered to the University of Jyväskylä by mail only and without a covering note.

The language proficiency certificates are submitted in compliance with the separate instructions on language proficiency certificates.

If you have completed or are completing your degree in an institution that submits official transcripts of records only electronically (e-transcripts), please contact doctoral-admissions[at]jyu.fi.

Please note that the University of Jyväskylä does not return any documents.

If there is a chance that your documents will not reach us in time by mail, we recommend you use an international courier service. It is always the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the application documents reach the University of Jyväskylä by the application deadline.

The University of Jyväskylä does not accept documents submitted by email or fax.

Applicants who have submitted their application before the application deadline will be requested, when necessary, to supplement their application. The deadline for supplementary material is 14 days.
