Guidance for migrants

Supporting Immigrants in Higher Education in Finland - SIMHE services are targeted to migrants and refugees residing in Finland and looking for guidance to higher education. SIMHE guidance and counselling is offered through personal and small group discussions by appointment.

You are welcome to contact SIMHE* guidance and counselling services if you are a migrant living in Finland and looking for information about higher education, academic study options, general guidelines for admissions or means to continue interrupted education. Guidance is provided in person and for small groups. The personal discussion is conducted either in English or in Finnish face-to-face, online through video call or on the phone. Maximum duration of a meeting is about half an hour.

Please contact and book appointment to guidance discussion in advance by sending email to
simhe-info@jyu.fi or calling counsellor Marita Häkkinen 040 805 4913.

In the guidance discussion, counselee with assistance by SIMHE's counsellor plans a personal path that facilitates concrete steps to higher education studies, short-term or degree-oriented, in Finland. The discussion is always confidential and respects counselee’s own interests. The study options are clarified in the light of counselee's previous education or profession and language skills. Since study supplies and application dates and deadlines as well as practices may vary between institutions, possible timetables and need for continued counselling are also outlined.

SIMHE guidance services incorporates study options from any Finnish university or university of applied science including open higher education studies.
