After my Bachelor studies in history, I wanted to widen my academic focus to a field I felt was more focused on and relevant to today´s globalized world. Thus, I stumbled upon the International MA program in Intercultural Communication (ICC). After reading a bit about the field, I recognized Intercultural Communication was the perfect opportunity for me based on my professional aspirations. I had been to the city of Jyväskylä a couple of times before and based on my previous experiences, I could not imagine a better city to study for my MA. It was therefore a natural and easy decision for me.

I really enjoy studying in this program. The teachers are very open-minded, helpful and student oriented. Working, learning and exchanging thoughts in the multicultural group of fellow students and teachers provided an opportunity for me to develop intercultural skills and competencies. It is so satisfying to learn and live ICC on a daily basis. The teachers are very helpful in guiding students on important literature and in bringing out the individual strength of each student. Their positive attitude and visible passion for the field served as a motivation for me during challenging times.

In the transition between student life and work life, the program includes a great opportunity for you to test your skills through case studies, a work-project or an internship. This can be a stepping-stone towards your future career path or goal. For instance, I have always been interested in international relations and diplomacy, and guess what? I just recently completed a two months internship at the German Embassy in Helsinki. I learned a lot about working in this kind of setting and I had the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills I acquired from the program.

The city of Jyväskylä is a great place to live and study. The city itself has a very youthful profile due to the size of the student population in different universities and colleges. Studying ICC in Jyväskylä will not only provide you with unique skills for your career but also with experiences, knowledge and networks for your future.
