Knitting lessons

Samira Syal | Educational Sciences

On one of the first classes I took with other Finnish students I noticed, that some of them would be knitting while listening to the lectures – that stunned and intrigued me. I then happened to mention this to one of the faculty members in the department, who so kindly offered to teach us to do it. This is only one example of how dynamic and open-minded people here at the university are.

By simply talking, it is possible to learn things that no single textbook can ever teach. There’s this stereotype on Finns being unsociable – they’re even making a number out of it themselves. My experiences are quite the opposite.

Topic I could discuss endlessly: Food, food and more food.
