Application instructions for incoming exchange students

After your home university has nominated you to study at the University of Jyväskylä as an exchange student, please apply for admission and accommodation using an online application in the Mobility-Online system. Please read these instructions carefully before filling in the online application.

Application periods and deadlines

  • 15 May 2019 for the autumn semester 2019 / academic year 2019-2020
    • The application period stars on 15 March.
  • 1 November 2019 for the spring semester 2020
    • The application period for the spring semester 2020 starts on 1 September for the bilateral, Becas Chile and FIRST applicants and on 15 September for Erasmus and Nordplus applicants.

Please follow these steps to complete your Mobility-Online application:

Step 1

Fill in the online application carefully. The link to the online application is available during the application periods. Remember to use your name as it appears on your passport. After you have filled in the form, please click the "send application" button at the bottom of the page. There is no need to send a paper copy of the application.

You can also apply for student accommodation using the same online application. There is no need to fill in any additional applications for accommodation. >> More information on housing

Step 2

After you have filled in the online application, you will receive an e-mail message with further instructions and with a request to register to Mobility-Online using a link which is included in the message. If you do not receive this e-mail, please check your junk mail folder. When registering to Mobility-Online, please create a login name and a password.

Step 3

Enter Mobility-Online and complete your personal data by clicking the link "Complete personal data".

Step 4

Prepare your preliminary study plan (Learning Agreement) by clicking the link "Complete Learning Agreement". In order to enter courses into your Learning Agreement, please click on the white icon on the left. If you cannot enter courses into your Learning Agreement, please contact the International Office at After your host faculty has accepted your application, you will receive an electronically signed Learning Agreement by e-mail.

You can choose courses from the curriculum of your host department and/or from the international study programmes arranged at the University of Jyväskylä. If you cannot find information on the courses offered during the study period you are applying for, you may prepare your Learning Agreement based on current year's course information. If you are accepted to the University of Jyväskylä, please modify your Learning Agreement after your arrival if necessary.

Step 5

Upload an official transcript of your university records in English into Mobility-Online in order to finalize the application.

The transcript of records should list the courses you have completed at your home university so far. The document has to be signed and stamped by a university official. Please note that your application cannot be processed without the transcript.

If your university cannot provide you with a transcript of records, please use a standard transcript of records form and have it signed and stamped by a university official.

If you have completed a Bachelor's degree, please attach also a transcript of your Bachelor's level studies to the application.

Step 6

If you receive a request to modify your Learning Agreement, you should:

  1. Log into Mobility-Online.
  2. Re-click the link Create / Modify your Learning Agreement.
  3. Make and save the requested changes.
  4. Mark the modifications made by clicking the link 'Mark your Learning Agreement as modified'.

After your Learning Agreement and application has been approved, you will receive an acceptance e-mail from the International Office. Please wait for this e-mail before making any travel reservations. The e-mail includes a signed Learning Agreement, letter of admission and information on practicalities.
