THANK YOU

To the participants of the international conference Insights into Applied Linguistics:  Languaging, agency and ecologies  (The 30th Summer School of Applied Language Studies).

First, thank you to our wonderful plenary speakers: Annalisa Sannino, Yrjö Engeström, Claire Kramsch, Alastair Pennycook, Timo Järvilehto, Stephen Cowley,   Steven L. Thorne and Leo van Lier. You added so much to our understanding of the current state-of-the-art in applied linguistics and made the conference a memorable and inspiring event.

Thank you to all the presenters of papers and posters who shared their work.  Thank you to all colleagues who volunteered to chair the sessions. Particular thanks are due to Katja Mäntylä and Anne Pitkänen-Huhta for chairing the Monday panel. I thank our active audience for making all those comments and questions.

I also wish to thank our local team. Special thanks go to Mari Aro, Liisa Kallio and Riikka Ullakonoja who were responsible for putting both the scientific programme and the social programme together.  Other members of our organizing committee, Riikka Alanen, Sari Pietikäinen, Olli-Pekka Salo, Minna Suni and Peppi Taalas helped in various ways, both in practical matters and philosophical questions.  Satu Julin and Taru-Maija Heilala-Rasimov from the faculty office helped with finances and general organization, and Lassi Paavolainen provided immediate support in any questions concerning the abstract tool. During the conference, Ari Maijanen was always there for technical assistance and also, congress photography.  Sinikka Lampinen designed our abstract book and conference posters while Antti Myöhänen designed the prints that displayed the history of our conference series.  Last but not least, let’s give our thanks to our capable conference assistants.

Thanks to our sponsors: the city of Jyväskylä, who hosted our wonderful reception in Tanssisali Lutakko, and Oxford University Press who displayed their books.

I wish you all a relaxed summer holiday season. See you in Jyväskylä in 2013!

Best,

Hannele Dufva
Chair of the conference
