Practical Information

Conference Venue – Agora

Agora, Mattilanniemi 2

FI-40100 Jyväskylä, FINLAND.

Agora is the white building on the Mattilanniemi Campus, see the Campus map. The conference site is within walking distance of all official conference hotels. The parking lots surrounding Agora are in use of Conference participants during the conference days.

Registration Desk / Conference Office

The Conference Office is located in the lobby of the Agora Building. It will be open for registration on Wednesday 14 June 10-18:30, and open daily at 08:30 for the duration of the conference.

Registration and conference material

All participants must register onsite at the Conference Info Desk in order to receive their conference pack.

Badges

All delegates will receive a badge upon onsite registration. This badge permits access to all conference sessions, and should be worn at all times during the conference, and also for the City reception on Wednesday.
You will recognize the members of the Local Organizing Committee by the abbreviation “LOC” and the Congress assistants by “STAFF” on their name badge.

Coffee breaks and lunches

Coffee, tea, biscuits and fruits will be available for conference participants during the scheduled coffee breaks. They are included in the conference fee, and served in the lobby of Agora Building.
Lunch is included in the conference fee on Thursday and Friday. Lunch is served in the student restaurants Piato (Building Agora).

Notice board

A notice board is posted near the Info Desk. Possible changes and updates to the programme will be announced on the notice board in the morning of each conference day.

Wireless network (WLAN)

In the conference venue Agora, there is a wireless network called agora-open, which you can use for browsing the internet and checking your e-mails from your own device. No password required,

Another option is to use Eduroam, which is a world-wide roaming access service that enables access to the wireless network of different academic institutions. Logging in to the network is done by using the user accounts of each organization that uses eduroam.

Staff assistance

There will be several assistants in the conference venue at all times and they are happy to help you with technical issues for your presentation, and with any practical questions or problems you may have during the conference.

Social programme

Wednesday, June 14, 19:00–20:30, Welcoming reception hosted by the City of Jyväskylä. All registered delegated are cordially invited to an evening reception hosted by the City of Jyväskylä. Refreshments and samples of Finnish tastes will be offered. The reception will take place at the Jyväskylä City Hall, Vapaudenkatu 32. After closing of the Wednesday's sessions, there will be a guided, 15-20 minute walk from the conference venue to the reception. Please note! The invitation is needed.

Thursday, June 15, 19:30-22:30, A Dinner cruise will depart from the picturesque Jyväskylä city harbor. The ship will make a 3 hr voyage around the beautiful archipelago of Northern Päijänne, the second largest lake in Finland. The delegates can enjoy traditional sceneries of Finnish nature while tasting local summertime delicacies on board. An occasion not to be missed!

NOTE: If you have already registered but did not book a dinner cruise, it is possible to reserve tickets and pay at the conference in cash (45 EUR). Please note, that it is possible to reserve ticket for your companion as well. Kindly contact:   ipvi-info@jyu.fi

Transportation (local)

The conference site is within walking distance of the city centre (1,5km) and all the official conference hotels (0km-1,5km). Please note that there is no transportation provided by the conference organizers from the hotels to the conference venue.

In case you prefer taking a bus to the venue: The local bus (number 5) runs to the conference venue from the local transportation station that is situated on Vapaudenkatu nearby the pedestrian zone. The bus leaves from the bus stop 6. Please note that the connections are not very frequent. The one-way ticket costs 3 euros and is bought directly from the bus driver. A ticket is valid for one transfer (e.g. the return journey) within an hour.

Tourist Information

The City’s Tourist Information Office is located at Asemakatu 6 (close to the City centre hotels). Staff there can provide information on events in Jyväskylä and the surrounding region (movies, museums, exhibitions, concerts, etc.). Weather

The daytime temperature in early June is usually between +10 and +20 ◦Celcius, but at night it can sometimes be chilly (even +5 - +10). The sun rises about 03:30 a’clock in the morning and sets after eleven o’clock in the evenings. The weather can be really variable, so please consult weather forecasts.

Credit cards and ATMs

Most international credit cards (Visa, Eurocard, MasterCard, American Express, Diner’s Club, etc.) are accepted in shops, hotels, and restaurants.  ATMs (“Otto” in Finnish) can be found on Kauppakatu, as well as at the railway/bus station.

Health Services

Emergency health care is available at the Central Hospital (Address: Keskussairaalantie 19). For help with first aid, please contact the Conference Info Desk.

The emergency number in Finland is 112.

Local pharmacies (“Apteekki”) sell prescription-free drugs and remedies.

Smoking policy

Smoking is prohibited indoors in public places and in public transportation in Finland. This means that in the campus area you are only allowed to smoke outdoors. Please take notice of the signs "TUPAKOINTI KIELLETTY" (No smoking).
