Opportunity to visit the Pyhäsalmi Mine

The Pyhäsalmi Mine, situated 180 km North of Jyväskylä, is the deepest mine in Europe (1420 m), home to the underground cosmic-ray experiment EMMA, and a likely location of the future large-scale neutrino facility (LAGUNA-LBNO). [more pictures of the mine]

Participants of NDM’15 will have the opportunity to visit the Pyhäsalmi Mine on 30 – 31 May (Saturday – Sunday), that is just before the start of the conference.

There are only 15 places available so, if you are interested, please reserve yours promptly by sending an email to Kai Loo (mailto: kai.k.loo@jyu.fi) right after completing the registration (https://payments.jyu.fi/events/ndm15).

To participate in the visit to the Pyhäsalmi Mine, you should arrive to Jyväskylä on Friday, May 29, 2015.

Tentative program:

Saturday, May 30th

  • Transportation from Jyväskylä to Pyhäsalmi (3 h)
  • Presentations about the mine, EMMA experiment, LAGUNA-LBNO
  • Safety video
  • Possibility to enjoy sauna and swimming in the lake
  • Dinner and overnight in the Hotel Pyhäsalmi

Sunday, May 31st

  • Visit to the mine
    - The main level at 1420
    - EMMA experiment
  • Lunch
  • Transportation back to Jyväskylä (3h)
  • Arrival in time for the NDM’15 Welcome Reception

The transportation costs Jyväskylä – Pyhäsalmi Mine - Jyväskylä would be around 80 €. The meals would be ~15 € lunch and ~25 € dinner. The weekend price for a single room in the Pyhäsalmi hotel (http://www.hotellipyhasalmi.com) is 87 € per night.
