Travel

Finland is easily accessible by plane as most international airlines have regular flights to Helsinki. The city of Jyväskylä is located in the Central Finland, some 270 km north of the capital. Our town can be reached by plane, train, bus, or with a rented car. We recommend flying all the way to Jyväskylä.

By Plane

The easiest, most comfortable and often the least expensive way to reach our town is to get a flight ticket all the way to Jyväskylä. Although there are no direct flights from abroad, Finnair (https://www.finnair.com) offers very good connections with major cities in Europe, Asia and the USA. Finnair and Flybe – the only two companies operating the flights to Jyvaskyla are members of Oneworld airline alliance (http://www.oneworld.com/) so to get the best deal on your flight ticket you may have to use the airline from that group.

Important: to get this special service you must inform us in advance which flight you’ll be arriving with. Please email your flight information to our contact address ndm15@jyu.fi . If you fail to inform us in advance about your arrival or if you won’t use the flights listed above, you would have to pre-order a taxi for yourself (+358) 0100 6900 and pay about 50 € for the ride.

Please note: Jyväskylä airport is small. There is no public transport from the airport to town! Practically all of the arriving passengers have the transportation already arranged so there are no taxis waiting unless they were ordered in advance. The taxi journey from the Jyväskylä airport to town takes 15-20 minutes and costs about 50,00 €. To pre-order, please call +358 100 6900. Credit cards are accepted. There is no need to tip.

By Bus

There are long-distance buses departing directly from the Helsinki airport. Most bus connections to Jyväskylä require transferring but these are well arranged. Depending on the route and the number of transfers the bus ride to Jyväskylä takes 4 – 5 hours. The cost is about 50 € one way; there is no discount for the round trip. You may buy the ticket when boarding the bus and pay with your credit card.

The departures from Terminal 1 platform 5 are just a few minutes before or after Terminal 2.

Please note that with the exception of the 23:00 and 2:00 bus, all the other connections need one or two transfers and therefore the destination on the bus does not read Jyväskylä, but Lahti. Please ask the driver!

If the bus takes the western route to Jyväskylä (via Jämsä), you may ask the driver to stop at the University (Yliopisto 1) and walk from there to ALBA. The distance is only 700 m as shown on the map below.

If you prefer TAXI, it is better to continue to the Travel Centre (Matkakeskus in Finnish) where the taxis are parked while waiting for the customers. The fee to ALBA will be about 12 Euro. The distance from the Travel Centre to ALBA is 1.8 km so it takes about 25 minutes to walk:

As the place of departure please select Helsinki-Vantaa Airport Terminal 1 or 2 (depending where you’ll arrive). The same bus stops first at the Terminal 1 (usually at platform 5) and then continues to the Terminal 2 (platform 13 or 14; please check).
As the destination please select Jyväskylä Travel Centre (Matkakeskus). This is the main bus and train stop in Jyväskylä.

By Train
