University of Jyväskylä again among the world’s best research universities

The University of Jyväskylä kept its position among the world’s top 500 in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking that compares research-intensive universities.

On the list of 2018–2019, published on 26 September 2018, the University is positioned 401–500. The list includes in total 1,258 universities.

The level of research at JYU was evaluated very positively but there was a slight drop in the category of education. A detailed position is given only to the best 200. In comparison of Finnish universities, JYU was the seventh.

Research, its volume and funding, the influence of scientific publications and the university’s reputation in the global science community make 60% of the evaluation criteria. In total 13 performance indicators measure research, teaching (30%), international outlook (7.5%) and knowledge transfer with industry (2.5%).

“The international reputation survey by THE has a lot of weight in the ranking. This means that long-term efforts in education and research, mobility and science communications are crucial,” says Vice Rector Henrik Kunttu.
