Get study credits from volunteer work with asylum seekers

The students of JYU have a chance at getting study credits from volunteer work with asylum seekers. Focus on this course is put on interacting, listening and finnish civil society skills. For students this is also an opportunity to learn more about communication, building dialogue and teaching civics.

JYU Profiling area ”Crises Redefined: Historical continuity and Societal Change” will host its fall seminar on Approaches to Crises in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This seminar is continuation from last year’s seminar, concentrating now on focus area 2, “Politicized crises: discourses and practices”.

University of Jyväskylä to award 9 honorary doctorates

The University of Jyväskylä will award 9 new honorary doctorates in May. The tenth Conferment of Degrees Ceremony for the whole University and the conferment procession will be held on Saturday, 25 May 2019. In addition, related festivities will be arranged throughout the weekend.

People use music to regulate emotions (Baltazar)

M.A. Margarida Baltazar defends her doctoral dissertation in Musicology "Where Mind and Music Meet: Affect Self-Regulation through Music". Opponent Professor Tia DeNora (University of Exeter, England) and Custos Senior Researcher Suvi Saarikallio (University of Jyväskylä). The doctoral dissertation is held in English.

M.A. Cheng Zeng defends his doctoral dissertation in Intercultural Communication "Exploring organizational dissent in a global setting". Opponent Professor Emerita Caroline Hatcher (Queensland University of Technology) and Custos Professor Stephen Croucher (University of Jyväskylä). The doctoral dissertation is held in English.

New issue of Human Technology

The journal Human Technology has published a new issue. The English-language Open Access, international, peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal is published by the Open Science Centre at the University of Jyväskylä.
