Heroes of research and teaching awarded in the Annual Celebration

The traditional annual celebration of the University of Jyväskylä was held on 6 March. In the event, awards were granted to distinguished researchers and teachers from the University. The awards were donated by the Jyväskylä University Foundation. In addition, the awards of Ellen and Artturi Nyyssönen Foundation and Aino Sallinen Trust were also handed in the event. The programme of the event included performances from the VUO orchestra and the body percussion group KOPS.

Tommi Jantunen appointed as Professor of Finnish Sign Language

The Rector of the University of Jyväskylä Keijo Hämäläinen has appointed PhD, Docent Tommi Jantunen as Professor of Finnish Sign Language from 1 December 2018. The professorship is placed in the Department of Language and Communication Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Get study credits from volunteer work with asylum seekers

The students of JYU have a chance at getting study credits from volunteer work with asylum seekers. Focus on this course is put on interacting, listening and finnish civil society skills. For students this is also an opportunity to learn more about communication, building dialogue and teaching civics.

JYU Science Communication Award to the Journalism Research News service

The JYU Science Communication Award in the academic year 2017–2018 was granted to the Journalism Research News (JRN) service. Project Researcher Pasi S. Ikonen from the Department of Language and Communication Studies was awarded for the development work which has made, in a few years, the JRN project a leading international science communication channel in the field of journalism research.

JYU awarded developers of education

Rector Keijo Hämäläinen granted the 2018 Educational Development Awards on 26 October 2018. On the basis of proposals received from the University community, the awards were granted to teacher-researcher teams whose work is characterized by collaborative and systematic development efforts as well as excellent student feedback.

New issue of Human Technology

The journal Human Technology has published a new issue. The English-language Open Access, international, peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal is published by the Open Science Centre at the University of Jyväskylä.
