The University of Jyväskylä has successfully developed its quality management system and passed the quality audit of the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC). In its report, the audit group states that the University’s quality policy integrates quality assurance and development with everyone’s work and promotes the achievement of strategic targets.

Master’s degree education at the Department of Languages and the Department of Biological and Environmental Science was praised for having a variety of good practices. Quality management at the units was evaluated at the highest, that is, advanced level.

“This is great news for the University. According to the final report, quality management supports the performance of basic functions at the University and the staff is committed to follow the quality management principles. The audit report includes concrete recommendations that help in the development of the University,” says Rector Matti Manninen.

Educational quality management has successfully focused on developing the quality of teaching and pedagogical competence of teachers. The Student Life concept offers models and operating methods for sharing good practices throughout the University.

In research, quality management is strongly connected to the strategy of the University. To support research, the University offers future-oriented project services that forecast changes in the operating environment. In addition, innovation processes are well-planned and their resourcing is target-oriented.

The audit group found that work to develop societal impact and interaction with society has been significant and successful.  In future, the University should strengthen cooperation networks instead of individual-based connections and utilise the expertise of its independent institutes in development work.

The University of Jyväskylä was audited for the first time in 2008.  Thereafter, the University has succeeded to develop a strong quality culture in which students also participate actively in development work.

The audit report is published on the FINEEC website at

More information on the results is available in the final seminar of the audit on 11 June 2015 at 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. in the Martti Ahtisaari Hall, Agora.  Please register in Korppi:  Welcome!
