A Documentarist from India: Daljit Ami visits University of Jyväskylä

Daljit Ami, a Punjab-born journalist and documentary filmmaker is visiting Finland, and will screen two of his films at the University of Jyväskylä. Not Every Time (2006, 59 min) documents a mass movement against patriarchal gender roles in society after a rape incident that shook Punjab in 1997, and sparked a mass movement against patriarchal gender roles in the society. Seva (2015, 27 min.) focuses on the protection of the literary cultural heritage of the Sikhs, which is a demanding task in a culture where burning old books is still a common tradition.


There will be a Q & A sesssion after the screening of each film.


The event is organized by the Poverty and Development research center of Department of History and Ethnology in cooperation with JAMK and  Full Focus Media.
