University of Jyväskylä is among the world’s best research universities

The University of Jyväskylä is ranked among the world’s top 500 in the latest Times Higher Education World University Ranking that compares research-intensive universities. The University is positioned 401–500 on the list of 2016–2017, published on 21 September 2016. The list includes in total 980 universities.

The evaluation of the level of education at the University of Jyväskylä was highly positive. However, cooperation with the business world was considered modest. A detailed position is given only to the best 200. In total nine universities from Finland were ranked this time.

Research, its volume and funding, the influence of scientific publications and the university’s reputation in the global science community are weighted 60% in the evaluation criteria. In total 13 performance indicators are used to measure research, teaching (30%), international outlook (7.5%) and knowledge transfer with industry (2.5%).

The University of Jyväskylä was invited to join the worldwide university comparison in 2011. The comparison is carried out by the prestigious Times Higher Education magazine, and the current comparison format has been used since 2010.
