University of Jyväskylä

English-medium MDPs open for application

The University offers 17 renewed MDPs

An application round for the English-medium MDPs (master’s degree programmes) of the University of Jyväskylä will open on 15 November 2015. The six faculties of the University offer in total 291 study places in 17 MDPs.

Two-year MDPs have been renewed and there are some completely new programmes, such as the MDP in Digital Marketing and Corporate Communication at JSBE and new MDPs of the Faculty of Information Technology, which all have evoked a lot of interest. MDPs provide students an international, multicultural and multilingual learning environment in which instruction is based on research in faculties.

All MDPs are open for both Finnish and international applicants. As of the next autumn, tuition fees will be collected from students from outside the EU and EEA countries. The fees are programme-specific and vary from 8,000 to 12,000 euro. When applying for a study place, students may also apply for a grant to cover the tuition fee.

The University has more than 1,000 international students every year. Around half of them study in English-medium MDPs and the rest in doctoral programmes or as exchange students.

- Based on the experiences of neighbouring countries that have introduced the fees earlier, there will probably be a drop in the number of applicants at least for a couple of application rounds after the fees are imposed. However, we have good abilities to cope in the new market situation by developing the quality and competitiveness of education and improving the University’s international visibility, student recruitment and marketing, says Head of Internationalisation Anna Grönlund.

MDPs are available for applicants with a suitable bachelor’s degree from Finland or elsewhere. The programmes last for two years and their extent is 120 ECTS credits. The studies are in English.

Applications for the MDPs are submitted through the service. The application round ends on 5 January 2017 and studies begin in September 2017.
