The transfer admission of University of Vaasa language students to Jyväskylä ends

The transfer admission for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students in languages from the University of Vaasa to the University of Jyväskylä ended on Thursday, 16 February. The study rights of students who accept their study place in the transfer admission will be transferred from Vaasa to Jyväskylä as of autumn 2017. The transfer admission had in total 151 applicants. In total 560 students registered for attendance for the spring term 2017. Especially doctoral students were active in the transfer admission.

Degree education and research in languages at the University of Vaasa will move as a transfer of business to the University of Jyväskylä from 1 August 2017. The scope of the agreement covers the staff and students of language studies in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Vaasa. The transfer of business covers Finnish and its cognate languages, Nordic languages (including language immersion), English, German and the minor subjects Russian and French.

With the transfer of language subjects, both universities aim to strengthen their profiles. The aim of the University of Vaasa is to develop its national and international competitiveness by specialising in economics, technology, communication sciences and administrative sciences. In turn, the University of Jyväskylä wants to strengthen languages as one of its core fields.
