Aki Kangasharju, Kaisa Oksanen and Krista Varantola elected as external members to the University Board from 1 January 2018 »

The University Collegium elected Aki Kangasharju, D.Sc. (Econ.), Kaisa Oksanen, Ph.D., and Chancellor Emerita Krista Varantola, Ph.D., as the external members of the University Board for the term of office 1 January 2018–31 December 2019.

Keijo Hämäläinen, the new rector of the University of Jyväskylä as of 1 August 2017 has asked the current vice rectors Kaisa Miettinen and Helena Rasku-Puttonen to continue in their current positions until the end of October 2017. The purpose is to appoint new vice rectors for a five-year period before appointing deans in the turn of the year. 

Santtu Tikka wins outstanding master's thesis award on statistics »

M.Sc. Santtu Tikka has been awarded the national Leo Törnqvist prize for the best master's thesis in statistics in 2015–2016. The prize was given by Finnish Statistical Society. The Finnish Statistical Society gives a Leo Törnqvist award for an outstanding master's degree thesis in statistics completed in the last two years.

Team POCKit aims to put the power of diagnostics into the hands of patients »

Team POCKit is participating in the semi-final stage of the prestigious Helsinki Challenge for the special 100 year anniversary of Finland. Team POCKit’s innovation is to offer a portable, lab-on-a-chip diagnostic device for detecting tick-borne diseases.

WannaCry ransomware »

The internationally spreading WannaCry ransomware was launched on the Internet on 12 May 2017, and the attack was also targeted to Finland. According to current information, no messages spreading WannaCry has been received at the University and no ransomware has been found on the computers and servers of the University. Nevertheless, we remind all users of Windows devices to ensure to have the latest Windows updates

International Summer School on understanding Learning in the Brain »

The registration for The International Summer School “Understanding Learning in the Brain”, organized by Jyväskylä Centre for Interdisciplinary Brain Research and Department of Psychology, University of Jyväskylä, is now open. It consists of three events: an Educational Neuroscience Symposium, a two-day Conference, a two-day Workshop on advanced MEG/EEG signal processing.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Science and the Faculty of Information Technology from the University of Jyväskylä organize the annual International Summer School. It provides students with an excellent opportunity to participate in a large number of courses and enjoy high quality teaching by respected researchers from all over the world. The Summer School offers courses for advanced Master’s students, PhD students, and post-docs in various fields of science and information technology. The language of instruction is English in all courses.
