JYU keeps its position in the Best Global Universities ranking

The University of Jyväskylä slightly improved its position from the last year in the Best Global Universities ranking made in the US. JYU was ranked 457th globally and 210th among European universities. Last year the positions were 472nd globally and 206th in Europe.

This global ranking by U.S. News & World Report is based on such indicators as research reputation and the number of publications and citations. The new edition includes country, regional and subject-specific rankings. This year the comparison lists 1,250 universities instead of the 1,000 listed last year. A total of ten Finnish universities were included in the list.

Among Finnish universities, JYU remained sixth. As for the subject-specific rankings, JYU deserved a spot in Arts & Humanities (188th globally), Chemistry (297th globally), Social Sciences and Public Health (303rd globally) and Physics (338th). Just as last year, the University of Helsinki (81st globally and 24th in Europe) and Aalto University (255th and 115th) were ranked the best in Finland.

In addition to the aforementioned universities, the list includes the University of Turku (position 296), the University of Eastern Finland (357), the University of Oulu (395), the University of Tampere (471), the Lappeenranta University of Technology (570) and the Tampere University of Technology (638). Åbo Akademi University is this year’s newcomer, ranked 840th globally.

The best three universities on the global list are Harvard, MIT and Stanford in the US. The European list is topped by the British universities Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London.

U.S. News & World Report, which now published its fourth global comparison, has published rankings of US domestic universities for over 30 years.
