Janne Pakarinen and Philippos Papadakis received the Science Communication Award

Science Communication AwardThe University of Jyväskylä Foundation granted the Science Communication Award of the academic year 2016–2017 to Senior Researchers Janne Pakarinen and Philippos Papadakis from the Department of Physics for their merits in organising the Europearn Researchers’ Night event on 30 September 2016. The award was granted now for the first time in connection with the University Days on 27 October 2017.

The purpose of this award is to point out innovative ways to publicise University-based research. The awarded sum is 3,000 euros.

Janne Pakarinen was the national coordinator of the European Researchers’ Night event. Philippos Papadakis took care of the arrangements in Jyväskylä. The event covered nearly all universities and various research institutes in Finland. The awardees managed to get along a great number of inspired researchers.

The event was a great success. Last year the event in Jyväskylä reached a new record in the number of audience, 5,700 persons, and received a lot of publicity in the region. The justifications of the award highlighted the successful use of modern means of science communication and also the fact that especially children and young people were considered splendidly when designing the event programme. The event excellently displayed the diversity and impact of research.
