JYU exceeds its target for master’s and doctoral degrees in 2017

Doctoral education at the University of Jyväskylä works excellently. Once again, the University exceeded its target for the number of doctoral degrees. The University had in total new 148 doctors in 2017. In 2016, the number was 158. The University has exceeded the targets for doctoral degrees every year in the 2010s.

The number of graduated masters was 1,475, as targeted. In 2016, the number was 1,516. The number of bachelor’s degrees increased to 1,344 degrees (1,211 in 2016).

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (44), the Faculty of Mathematics and Science (40) and the Faculty of Education and Psychology (22) achieved the highest numbers of doctoral degrees. They were followed by the Faculty of Information Technology (19) and the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences (14).

The faculties with the highest numbers of master’s degrees were the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (438) and the Faculty of Education and Psychology (357). They were followed by the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences (227) and the School of Business and Economics (174). The Faculty of Mathematics and Science had 144 master’s graduates and the Faculty of Information Technology 134.

The University’s targets for 2017–2020, agreed with the Ministry of Education and Culture, are on average 1,475 masters and 138 doctors per year. The average target of bachelor’s degrees is 1,360 degrees per year.
