Music is for the young in many ways. In music adolescents can reach out and relate, open their heart, and take their stance. Music allows many developmentally relevant uses for the young, serving as a forum for growth and healing.

The 5th International Symposium on Music Therapy and Adolescents brings together a leading group of researchers and professionals working with music and adolescents. The theme of this year’s symposium, Dialogue of therapy and school: music for the young, searches for mutual ground between the disciplines of music therapy and education through scientific knowledge about how music relates to development, wellbeing, and mental health and ill-health in the lives of the young.

Therapists, educators, and adolescents themselves approach music from different perspectives and goals. Yet, the ability of music to reach the personal world of young people is an immense strength for educators and health care professionals, to work towards growth and rehabilitation in a dialogical space.
