JYU GRADUATE SCHOOL FOR DOCTORAL STUDIES

Approximately 160 doctors graduate yearly from the six faculties of the University of Jyväskylä. Our aim is to educate professionals in research, competent and versatile experts in various fields for the needs of society.

The University of Jyväskylä Graduate School for Doctoral Studies operates at three levels. The Graduate School operates at the University level and steers the implementation of doctoral training in the faculties. Doctoral schools operate at the faculty level. Faculties admit doctoral students, organise training and award degrees. At the practice level, doctoral training is implemented in doctoral programmes.

The University of Jyväskylä supports doctoral training in its faculties and doctoral students’ international mobility, as well as offers doctoral students transferable skills studies, guidance and support services.

During the doctoral training, students familiarise themselves profoundly with their own field of research in order to develop a readiness to independently and critically apply scientific research methods and create new scientific knowledge. In addition to independent research, the degree includes discipline-specific studies and transferable skills studies.
