How to get to Jyväskylä?

The city of Jyväskylä is located in Central Finland, some 270 km north of Helsinki, and is best reached by plane, train or coach. The biggest international airport of Finland is located in the capital city Helsinki.

 

By plane

Most of the flights to Finland arrive at Helsinki Airport (about 20 km from the centre of Helsinki). From Helsinki Airport you may continue by plane, train or bus to Jyväskylä. Please book the connecting flight in advance. The flight time to Jyväskylä is approximately 50 minutes. The Jyväskylä (Tikkakoski) Airport is located about 23 km from the centre of Jyväskylä. There is no regular bus connection from the airport. You can take a taxi from the airport to the centre of Jyväskylä. The taxi journey from the airport to Jyväskylä takes around 20 minutes and costs around 50 €. It is recommended to book a taxi in advance by calling +358 100 6900 (advance booking payment approximately 7 €) as there may not be any taxis available at the airport upon your arrival, especially if you arrive late at night or early in the morning. If you are not able to book the taxi in advance, you can use the free telephone inside the terminal building to call for a taxi. By train

The train journey from Helsinki to Jyväskylä using the Pendolino express service takes about 3,5 hours and from Tampere to Jyväskylä roughly 1,5 hours. Train tickets can be purchased from VR, Finnish State Railways’ web store or a ticket office. You can take the train either from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport or the Helsinki railway station.

By coach

Jyväskylä can also be reached easily by coach; tickets can be bought from Matkahuolto’s web store which also provides details of routes, timetables, and fares. The journey from Helsinki to Jyväskylä by express coach takes approximately 4,5 hours. Many express coaches also stop at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, where the coach can be boarded.

A slightly quicker coach connection from the centre of Helsinki to Jyväskylä is operated by Onnibus. This takes about 3,5 hours but does not go to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The Onnibus leaves from Helsinki at Kamppi Bus station. The tickets must be purchased online in advance.

By ferry
