Taking a taxi

Taxi fares are quite expensive in Finland and taking a taxi is not as common as in some other countries. There are only a few taxi stations in the city centre; for example

It is usually easier to get a taxi by phone (tel. 0100 6900, €1.24 + local call charge; from abroad +358 0100 6900). On top of the basic fare and the kilometre fare there is a small extra charge in the evenings, at night and during weekends. A taxi ride from the city centre to the student apartments costs about €10–17. Taxi drivers do not expect you to give a tip.
