Location of Jyväskylä


Jyväskylä (132 000 inhabitants) is located in Central Finland, about 250 km north from Helsinki.

Daily connections from Helsinki to Jyväskylä either by plane, railway or bus are available.

Typical travelling times are 45 minutes by plane (between city centers around 2 hours), 3.5 hours by train and 4 hours by bus.

There are 4 - 5 daily flights between Jyväskylä and Helsinki and Jyväskylä and Tallinn.  Jyväskylä-Helsinki route is operated by FlyBe and Jyväskylä-Tallinn by Estonian Air.  Shuttle bus service (8 EUR as October 2012) after each flight from the airport to Matkakeskus in the downtown Jyväskylä is available.  Service is operated by S.P.Lehtonen Ky.  Taxi service can be ordered in advance from phone +358 100 6900.  Typical cost of a taxi is 40-50 EUR.

Railway connection from Jyväskylä to Helsinki leaves from Matkakeskus.  For the connection to/from Helsinki Airport all trains stop in Tikkurila 16 kilometers north of Helsinki main railway station. Tikkurila and Helsinki Airport are connected by bus number 61. A train connection betweenTikkurila and Helsinki Airport is expected to open in 2014.

Some long-haul buses stop at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.  Timetables available on the pages of Matkahuolto. The buses to Jyväskylä leave from platforms 13 or 14 in front of Terminal 2.  The bus from Jyväskylä to Helsinki-Vantaa stops also in front of Terminal 1.  In Jyväskylä, all buses commute through Matkakeskus.
