How to reach Jyväskylä

    The city of Jyväskylä is located in Central Finland, some 270 km north of Helsinki, and is best reached by plane, train or bus. The connections are relatively frequent and the journey from Helsinki to Jyväskylä takes 3-4 hours by train.
  • By Plane
    Most of the flights to Finland arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (about 20 km from the centre of Helsinki). From Helsinki-Vantaa Airport you may continue by plane or by bus to Jyväskylä. Should you continue by plane, you will arrive at Jyväskylä airport some 25 minutes after the take-off. The airport is located about 16 km from the centre of Jyväskylä. There is a regular FINNAIR bus connection from the airport to the centre of the town (the trip will take about a half an hour) and the bus fare is approximately EUR 5, also you can take a taxi which will only cost 10-20 Euros to the center of town. Please book the connecting flight at your local travel agency. Please see the Finnair timetables: http://www.finnair.com If you arrive at Tampere-Pirkkala Airport, take a bus or a taxi to the centre of Tampere. You can continue your journey to Jyväskylä by train or bus.

    If someone wants to save some money, one can try to look for some combination with other cheap alines.
    Here is a cheap airline (RYANAIR) flying to Tampere (about 1.5h by train to Jyvaskyla). There are flying only to Bremen, Dublin, Frankfurt Hahn, Liverpool, London Stansted, Riga

  • By Bus
    There is also a direct bus connection from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to Jyväskylä. The trip will take 4 -5 hours and costs approximately EUR 34. The timetable for buses: http://www.matkahuolto.com. The buses leave next to the International terminal at the airport.
  • By Train
    If you choose to travel by train, you should first catch a bus in front of the terminal building of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The fare of the FINNAIR bus is approximately EUR 5. There is also a local bus number 615 to the railway station and it costs about EUR 3. It will take some 25 minutes to get to the railway station, where you can catch the train to Jyväskylä. There are direct connections to Jyväskylä, but in some cases you will have to change trains at Tampere (see the schedule below). The journey to Jyväskylä will take 3 to 4 hours. The train fare (one way) will vary from EUR 38 to 45. Train connections: http://www.vr.fi.
