Materials Physics

Research of materials physics at the Physics Department is focused on nanophysics and nanotechnology, computational nanoscience, soft condensed matter and statistical physics. Research of nanoscience is performed in the NanoScience Center,  which combines expertise of physics, chemistry and biology. There the physicists have the most modern laboratory equipment like a cleanroom, thin film growth apparatus, electron beam microscope for litography, atomic force microscope for surface characterisation, cryostats and a supercomputer. The interests of the research group of complex materials include fluid mechanics, disordered and porous materials, fracture, X-ray tomography and other imaging methods, image analysis and stochastic and nonlinear systems. In addition to basic and fundamental research, the research groups collaborate with companies and research institutes interested in practical applications of physics.
