Ethical Committee

The University of Jyväskylä Ethical Committee is appointed by the Rector. It is in charge of providing information about issues related to ethics, particularly research ethics, and stimulating and maintaining discussion on ethics-related issues within the academic community. The Ethical Committee also provides statements on research projects in which human participants are studied in a way that may jeopardize their health or legal rights. The University of Jyväskylä is committed to complying with ‘the ethical principles of research in the humanities and social and behavioural sciences and proposals for ethical review' drafted by the National Advisory Board on Research Ethics in Finland (TENK), as well as organising ethical reviews in accordance with the proposal of TENK.

The jurisdiction of the Committee does not include application of the guidelines set by TENK for handling misconduct and fraud in the sciences; the Rector is in charge of this.

In 2017–2018, the Committee is chaired by University Lecturer Hannakaisa Isomäki, legal counselling is given by Legal Counsel Anu Ikävalko and committee's secretary is Senior Lecturer Petteri Niemi (secretary-ethicomm[at]jyu.fi).

Please see the guidelines for requesting a statement on research ethics on the Requests for Statement webpage.
