Grade "good"

Aim and choice of subject

Well-defined objectives are set and clearly stated. The reasons for the choice of subject and starting point of the research are explained, too. Connections to background literature are cited. Research questions are appropriately phrased.

Methods and data

The choice of the research method seems intelligible even if it is not specifically argued for and is not compared with other available methods. The method is used in an appropriate way. The research frame may reflect the shortcomings of the research carried out previously on the subject. Data is sufficient but not watertight in all respects.

Use of background literature

Relevant information provided by the background literature is identified and explained, and its relationship to the aims and methods of the study is made clear. The bibliography is large enough to meet the needs of the case.

Treatment of the subject, style and typography

The structure and coherence of the text offer no, or very few, grounds for criticism. References, tables and figures are appropriate. Language use and layout are flawless or nearly flawless.

The text provides clear answers to most of the research questions posed, even though not all the points are explained thoroughly. Conclusions are solidly argued.

The thesis forms a coherent and readable ensemble. Its structure is well-defined and logical. The hypotheses and observations are well argued. Suggestions about how the research could be extended in the future are made. Language use and style are good. The work may be excellent in places, but, as a whole, it does not measure up to the standards of "excellent".
