Student Union and Subject Associations

Student Union (JYY)

The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) is the students' very own advocacy and service organization. JYY's membership is obligatory for degree students and voluntary for exchange students. The JYY membership fee can either be paid for the whole academic year at once or for one semester at a time. By paying the membership fee, students are eligible for all student discounts and privileges and have the right to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service and the right to live in the student village.

Subject associations

Subject associations

Subject associations are student associations that organize different kinds of events and activities and work as advocates for their members. Each discipline/subject usually has their own subject association that you can join if you are studying the subject as a major or minor.

There are also two associations for international students that you are welcome to join: IDESCO (International Degree Student Community of JYU) and Lanka ry. Lanka ry is a subject association for exchange, minor, Master’s degree and PhD level students of the Intercultural Communication (ICC); Intercultural Management and Communication (IMCO); Applied Linguistics (APPLANG); and Language, Globalization and Intercultural Communication (LAGIC) programmes.

You can find a list of all the subject associations on the Student Union's website. If you wish to join the email list of a specific subject association, you can do so here: http://lists.jyu.fi/mailman/listinfo/.
