Master's Degree Programme in Digital Culture

(Student intake 20-25)

About the Programme

Multidisciplinary Master’s Degree Programme in Digital Culture  takes a critical look on the relations between arts, culture and technology. The programme focuses on various aspects of culture and its digitalisation, paying special emphasis on the relation between human and technology.  The programme acknowledges the current globalization tendencies, but simultaneously emphasises the local, Nordic perspectives in its approach. The humanistic orientation brings along the main question of what is the role of technology in cultural and artistic practices. The Programme draws on the tradition of humanistic research of digital culture within the Department of Art and Culture Studies, and is connected to the internationally recognized expertise in human technology in the University of Jyväskylä.

The Programme combines contemporary culture studies to the issues of digitalized cultural heritage in a unique way. By this pioneering approach the students will be able to widely consider the cultural implications of the ongoing technological changes, and they will qualify either for research intensive employment or for international specialist tasks within different fields of culture and arts. The degree qualifies students for enrolment in doctoral studies.
