Vesterinen Ida, Doctoral Student

General History

My research interests are mainly historical thinking, historical consciousness, teaching and learning history.

In my doctoral dissertation I study historical thinking in lower secondary school. I focus on how students’ historical thinking is shaped by and constructed in the interplay between collective memory, public history, the structures of the school system and students’ and teachers’ ideas on history.

I am a member of both the department’s research group on education, childhood and youth studies and University of Jyväskylä’s research group ”Teaching history outside the box” (TEHO).
