Early Modern Morals Research Center

Director: professor Kustaa H.J. Vilkuna

Early Modern Morals Research Center (EMM) studies the people, cultures, society, politics, general economic as well as the phenomena which impacted them, from life styles to political decision making, from work to celebration and from language use to the arts and sciences. The projects and research topics cover the entire scope of human existence: the moral systems of individuals and communities, leadership, rules, values, behaviors, habits and customs. We focus on Nordic societies, Sweden and Finland as well as the cultural, political, and economic environment of the North during the years 1450–1850. The EMM is characterized by the continuation of a long research tradition and multifaceted methodological and theoretical expertise.
