Intercultural Communication

The University of Jyväskylä is one of the pioneers in the teaching and research of intercultural communication in Finland. The Department of Language and Communication Studies (earlier Department of Communication)  has offered an international Master's Degree Programme in Intercultural Communication since 1997 and a doctoral programme since 2002.

As a field of research, Intercultural Communication examines communication in culturally diverse groups, communities and organizations. It also examines the interaction of people with varied cultural background. Intercultural Communication applies theoretical and empirical knowledge to answer the challenges of globalizing and multicultural societies.

The Master's Degree Programme in Intercultural Communication participates in Eurocampus, an international study period organized annually in cooperation with European partner universities within the EMICC network.

The Department also coordinates an international minor programme in Intercultural Communication (25 ECTS).
