COMA117 Current Issues in Communication Studies: Perspectives on Democracy and Citizenship, 5 ECTS credits

Aims and content: Multidisciplinary Current Issues -course aims to give an overview of Finnish communication studies on democracy and citizenship. Each week you'll be required to do different activities, usually based on at least one of the provided articles.
Mode of study: A web course, no contact teaching.
Assessment: Weekly discussions and learning diaries. Preassignment.

COMA118 Current Issues in Communication Studies: Perspectives on Rhetorics, Persuasion and Effects, 5 ECTS credits

Aims and content: The course aims to give you an overview of current studies on rhetorics-, persuasion- and effects themes in communication studies, discussed by visiting on-line teachers from member departments
of University Networks for Communication Sciences.

Literature: Cheney, Christensen, Zorn & Ganesh, Organizational communication in an age of globalization: Issues, reflections, practices; Hitt, Miller & Colella, Organizational behavior: Strategic approach.

COMP103 Finnish Media and Communication Culture, 3 ECTS

Aims and content: The aim of this course is to introduce the students to Finnish media and communication culture and to the relationship between culture and communication. The course also proposes to enhance the students’ skills in perceiving and analyzing communication. The contents include, among others, relationship of culture and communication, mass media in Finland and Finnish communication style.
NOTE! It is extremely important to be present on the first lecture because of information on and arrangements of learning assignments!

Aims and content: The course aims to give an overview of Finnish communication Studies on computer mediated  communication. The selection of recent articles will be divided into different themes: e.g. scientific and journalistic communication and interpersonal interaction in networks.

YVIS413 Innovation and Change 4 ECTS credits

Time: 7.11. - 29.11.2007
Aims and content: Change in organizations calls for new organizational communication strategies. This year the course will focus on: International Communication Management; Organizational Communication and PR in an international environment. Participants will be able to interpret communication efforts against a background of management problems of organisations operating in an international context; will understand specific problems of international organisations which demand the attention of  communication experts and will be able to track these down and analyse them in a concrete organisation; will understand the organisation of communication departments in international organisations.
Mode of study: lectures, 2 guest speakers                                        
Assesment: Essay, deadline is 10 days after the last meeting.
