JULIET STUDENTS: ENGLISH SUBJECT STUDIES (40 OP)


Those JULIET studies who start their English subject studies in 2012, 2013 or 2014 do the following English courses (English syllabus for minors):


BASIC STUDIES (13 pts):

  • EKIP203 Introduction to Language Study, 3 pts
  • EKIP204 Exploring Grammar 1, 2 pts
  • EKIP404 Discourse and Literacy, 2 pts
  • EKIP503 The English-speaking World today, 3 pts
  • EKIP505 History of the English-speaking World, 1 pt (lectures + exam on lectures)
  • EKIP504 The Story of English, 2 pts

SUBJECT STUDIES (27 pts):

  • EKIA152 Oral Communication for Teachers or EKIA157 Oral Communication, 2 pts
  • EKIA106 Written Communication, 3 pts
  • 5 pts from the section The Study of Language/Kielitieto
  • 8 pts from the section Language, Culture and Society/Kieli, kulttuuri ja yhteiskunta (4 pts from Language, Culture and Society and 4 pts from Literature)
  • EKIA301 Language Learning and Teaching, 5 pts (from 2015 on EKIA315 Current Issues in Teaching English)
  • one of the following book exams, 4 pts:
    1. EKIA313 Researching Interaction in the Classroom
    2. EKIA390 Learning and Teaching Grammar and Vocabulary
    3. EKIA391 Reading and Writing in a Foreign Language
    4. EKIA392 Learning disorders from the perspective of SLA


NOTE! JULIET students who take part in the entrance exam for minors (either in spring or in autumn) and are accepted to study English have to study the whole of basic and subject studies (28 pts and 36 pts respectively, in total 64 pts).
