Engaging in disciplinary thinking: historical literacy practices in Finnish general upper secondary schools (HisLit)

HisLit is a research consortium funded by the Academy of Finland. It combines the expertise from two universities - University of Jyväskylä and University of Helsinki - and three disciplines – applied linguistics, history and educational studies.

This multidisciplinary study aims to advance teaching, learning and assessing historical literacy in the Finnish general upper secondary schools and to investigate the relationships of disciplinary literacy to language proficiency and literacy. A special emphasis is given to students with immigrant background. Theoretically, the study combines the frameworks of disciplinary literacy, historical thinking and multiliteracy.
