Hannele Dufva

Hannele Dufva is Professor at the Department of Languages, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. With dialogism as her theoretical background, she has published articles on applied linguistics, language learning and teaching and intercultural communication.  She has edited and co-edited a number of books and journals, including a collection of papers of multilingualism, multiculturalism and identity (in Finnish) with Sari Pietikäinen and Sirkka Laihiala-Kankainen.

She is the principal investigator of the project Dialogues of Appropriation: Dialogical perspectives to language learning and teaching (2008-2010), funded by the Academy of Finland. There her main focus is to develop a socio-cognitive approach to second/foreign language learning and teaching. Here, she draws on dialogism, sociocultural thinking and other non-Cartesian approaches to language and cognition.
