Nigel Musk

I am a lecturer in English and a research fellow in the Department of Culture and Communication at Linköping University, Sweden.

Multilingualism is one of my major research interests. My doctoral dissertation was about young people in bilingual education in Wales. This study combined discourse analytic methods (including Conversation Analysis) to identify discourses on bilingualism and the language resources employed in young people's conversation, including frequent code-mixing and code-switching.

Otherwise, my present research project concerns how new communicative contexts for learning, including those using digital technologies, may facilitate the development of language skills in English as a second language. Here I am trying to develop the use of Conversation Analysis to investigate language learning processes (CA for SLA), a relatively new field.
