Analyzing data seminar 10.2.2010

We start our networks activities in the year 2010 with  Skype seminar that is leaded by PhD Student Anu Karjalainen. The title of the seminar is:  Ethnographic interviews - how to analyze your data?

You are all most welcomed to participate in our seminar on Wednesday 10.2.2010  at 10.00 - 11.30 Finnish time via Skype, or in Jyväskylä University, P-building, class 133. We kindly ask you to contact networks secretary Reetta (reetta.l.karjalainen@jyu.fi) by Friday 5.2.2010 if you are attending the seminar. Reetta will need your Skype address to be able to organize your attendance.

Each 3M Identities in Motion -network Phd seminar is supposed to especially concentrate on the matters of doing Phd thesis, such as analyzing your data. Since most of us are dealing with ethnographic interview material, we are all in one way or the other struggling with the theme on our first PhD Skype seminar. In the first session we’ll concentrate on Anu Karjalainen’s (University of Jyväskylä) data about Finnish-Americans and language identity. Around one week before the seminar you’ll receive an E-mail with some examples of Anu’s data and questions she’s dealing with at the moment. She’ll be greatful to hear your comments and feedback during the session. But please feel free to reflect her questions to your own data and if you are at the moment facing some difficulties with your own analysis, we can try to find solutions all together. And in general, if you know or you have heard some “dos and don’t’s” in data analysis that you find useful, please share them with us.
The seminar is organized by Identities in motion 3m –network together with Northern Multilingualism - project and Discourse Studies at the department of Languages.

You are warmly welcome!
