Virtual academic writing workshop 13.11.2009

Dear Identities in motion – network members,


You are all most welcomed to participate in our virtual academic writing workshop on Friday 13.11 at 12-14.00 (Finnish time) via Skype. We kindly ask you to contact to Reetta (reetta.l.karjalainen@jyu.fi by Wednesday 11.11. 2009.) for necessary practical matters.


This workshop is aimed at postgraduate students who are at the beginning of their academic career. It starts by recognizing the increasing pressure doctoral students’ face to have both a publication record and a thesis by the time they graduate. Participants will complete a number of practical writing exercises relating to their chosen topic. The following topics will be covered:
•   Beginning to write
•   Ideas generation
•   Abstract (Conferences
•   From conference paper to publication
o   Identifying publishing outlets
o   Writing the article
•   Submission
o   Peer-Review & resubmission
•   Publication

The workshop is organized by Identities in motion 3m –network together with Northern Multilingualism - project and Discourse Studies at the department of Languages.

The teacher of the seminar is Dr Máiréad Moriarty, who works as the Post-Doctoral research fellow on the Northern Multilingualism project, led by Professor Sari Pietikäinen from the University of Jyväskylä. Máiréad is also co-coordinating the Identities in Motion 3M research network.
