Doctoral studies at the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies

Doctoral training provides the student with both specialist skills in their own specific field and transferable skills connected to the scientific method and problem-solving in general. Additionally, it will improve the students' communication and IT skills required in modern information societies. A doctorate includes much more than the thesis. It is the personal project of a doctoral student, during which his or her knowledge, skills and the ability to apply them are developed in a variety of settings.

The doctoral program at the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies is part of the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Doctoral training provided by the Department follows the faculty-level guidelines laid out by the Doctoral School. Admission to doctoral training is applied from the Faculty according to their general rules. The next general application period is also announced on the Faculty webpage.

The applicant beings the process by contacting the main representative of their desired subject. A list of the main representatives can be found on the Department's webpage.

The application is compiled electronically, following the instructions found in the advertisement. The Faculty requests a recommendation from the Department for each application. At the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies, the applications are processed by the research board of the Department. The decision on admissions is made by the dean. The Faculty will inform all applicants on the decisions.
