Call for Papers: The 21st Annual Symposium for Music Scholars in Finland

Symposium theme: Back to the Future of Music Research

The Department of Music, Art, and Culture at the University of Jyväskylä in collaboration with The Finnish Musicological Society are pleased to invite researchers interested in music to attend to the 21st Annual Symposium for Music Scholars, which will take place on 19-21 April 2017 in Jyväskylä.

The symposium will bring together scholars from multiple fields of research to explore and discuss the future of academic music research. More specifically, we wish to promote discussions about the future directions within this multidisciplinary field by asking: “What is music research now and what can or should it be in the future?”.

All presentation proposals covering the topic are welcome!

Presentation types

The organisers invite participants of the symposium to submit their own proposals for oral presentations (length maximum 20 minutes), panel sessions (of 3-4 presentations) and poster presentations. The maximum length of abstracts are 200 words (for oral and poster presentations) and 300 words (for panel/thematic sessions).

Presentations can be given in Finnish, Swedish or English. We encourage participants to write abstracts and to give presentations in their native language.
